Radiofrequency Skin Surgery – Everything you need to know.
Radiofrequency skin surgery (RF) is an aesthetic surgery technique that uses RF instruments to remove moles and skin tags in a scar-less manner.
It is best performed in lesions which are raised above the surface of the skin like moles, warts and skin tags. The technique shaves off the lesion, and the resultant wound heals with a small scab.
Radiofrequency skin surgery is an exact technique which removes moles and skin tags, without an incision. There is minimal downtime, a dot-like scar and of course no bleeding.

How does the RF Skin surgery actually work? And why is it so precise?
Without delving into the physics of things we can answer this in a couple of easily understood lines.
We all know from high school that our bodies conduct electricity and it can burn us too. What we don’t remember is that we burn when the electric current passes through a tiny point only.
The RF machine has a thin pen-like probe and a broad Base-Plate which is applied to one of the legs. As soon as the probe touches the lesion, the electric circuit is completed by our body. Since the tip of the pen-like Probe is very thin, all of the current flows through it to generate a high temperature which precisely cuts through the problem without affecting any skin around it. At the same time, it coagulates tissue proteins and seals any bleeding vessels. On the other side, the large base-plate easily carries current without heating up.
Radiofrequency surgery is safe, effective and extremely precise. But naturally in the hands of a trained specialist.
How is Radiofrequency skin tightening procedure performed?
It is an outpatient procedure, meaning there’s no overnight stay.
First, your skin is cleaned thoroughly.
The mole or skin tag is anaesthetised with a local anaesthetic ointment or injection. So, there is no pain during the procedure.
The lesion is cut out carefully with the machine probe. The small vessels get coagulated simultaneously, and hence there is no bleeding.
Once the blemish has been shaved off a small band-aid is applied.
What are the benefits of Radiofrequency skin surgery over traditional surgery?
Traditional techniques use a scalpel to cut out the mole or skin tag. These create a wound which has to be sutured. RF skin surgery does not require skin suturing.
Traditional techniques also leave a scar whereas RF skin surgery instrument gives the surgeon complete precision to avoid scar formation. There is a tiny dot-like scar.
There is no bleeding.
The healing is faster because there is no incision and suturing.
When will I see the results?
As such wound healing takes 7-10 days, but the dressing is usually required only for the first two days. Results are seen immediately.
What are the After-Procedure instructions and precautions?
You will experience a slight redness after the procedure. It has a downtime of 2 to 7 days depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment. After your treatment session, your health care provider may recommend an ointment to prevent infections. You’ll need to avoid the sun for several months after radio-frequency procedure since your healing skin will be susceptible to tanning and hyperpigmentation. Proper use of sunscreen and following the ‘Aftercare instructions’ given to you at the time of treatment is of utmost importance.
What are the risks and safety considerations?
Our trained team of medical and nursing professionals has performed many procedures. We give utmost importance to patient safety.
In some people, radiofrequency skin surgery can cause a dot-like scar if the mole or lesion is too broad and deep. Such scar may become hyperpigmented and will require further treatment with cream or ointment, or may become hypopigmented spots which are lighter than the surrounding skin.
Who are the best candidates for Radiofrequency skin surgery?
An ideal candidate is in good physical health, understands the procedure, and has realistic expectations of the outcome. It is best effective in patients with skin tags and small to medium nonsuspicious moles. If the mole has suspicious characteristics then a formal mole removal surgery with advanced reconstruction methods may be required.
