Collagen Induction Therapy
Overview of Collagen Induction Therapy / Microneedling
Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) aka micro-needling is done with a Dermaroller device. It is a hand-held roller-device covered in micro-needles, needles ranging in length from 0.25 mm to 1.5 mm, which is rolled over the skin.
This creates very tiny skin punctures on the skin which trigger controlled skin repair, leading to the creation of new collagen.
A bodily protein made up of amino acids, collagen is the part of the connective tissue that helps in firmness, strength, suppleness, and elasticity in the skin.
Dermarolling is also capable of exposing deeper layers of your skin to the benefits of various topical ointments, natural oils, treatments, and products, leading to greater effectiveness and therapeutic effect.
Collagen Induction Therapy works well to rejuvenate the face, remove fine wrinkles and smoothen out scars.

How is Dermaroller procedure performed
It is an outpatient procedure, meaning there’s no overnight stay. First, your skin is cleaned thoroughly.
A fresh Dermaroller device is used for each patient. The drum of the device is rolled over the skin with controlled pressure creating numerous punctures. Usually, there is only a mild stinging sensation when the fine needles of sizes of 0.25 and 0.5 are used. In pain sensitive individuals we use topical anesthetic cream prior to the procedure.
Dermarolling or Collagen Induction Therapy may also be used with Chemical peeling to for deeper peel penetration and increased collagen stimulation.
At Kalpana Aesthetics we evaluate the entire face as a whole and suggest the best-cutomized treatment plan for you.
What are the benefits of Collagen Induction Therapy ?
- Reduces fine and deep wrinkles.
- Repairs visible scars.
- Reverses sun damage and pigmentation.
- Helps aging skin.
- Shrinks pores.
- Helpful in Hair-loss treatment together with PRP therapy.
- Reduce the prominence of stretch mark.
Who are best candidates for CIT ?
An ideal candidate for a collagen induction therapy is in good physical health, understands the procedure, and has realistic expectations of the outcome. It is best effective in patients with mild laxity and fine wrinkles. It takes away years from your skin. You are likely to be pleased with the results if your goal is to smooth wrinkles, improve skin texture, eliminate age spots, or reduce the effects of sun damage.
When will i see the results ?
CIT creates controlled wounds in the skin which heal with collagen formation. As such wound healing takes 7-10 days but the collagen formation and collagen maturation take around 1 month. Results are appreciable from 2 to 3 months onwards. CIT requires multiple sessions to generate enough changes in the skin to result in visible tightness and smoothening. Around 6-8 sessions are required with a gap of 3-4 weeks. Depending upon the laxity of the skin some individuals may need up to 10 sessions.
What are the risks and safety considerations ?
- Our trained team of medical and nursing professionals has performed many procedures. We give utmost importance to patient safety. The needles are very sharp so care should be taken in the regions near the eyes and the mouth.
- In some people, CIT treatment can cause pigmentation changes in the skin. Some types of skin may become hyperpigmented and will require further treatment with cream or ointment. Others may develop hypopigmented spots which are lighter than the surrounding skin.
- In some acne-prone individuals, acne can flare up after the treatment. Some people may not have expected results because of resistant skin.
What are the After-Procedure instructions and precautions ?
You will experience slight redness after the procedure. It has a downtime of 2 to 7 days depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment. After your treatment session, your health care provider may recommend a moisturizer or facial product to enhance and prolong your result. You’ll need to avoid the sun for several months after CIT since your healing skin will be susceptible to tanning and hyperpigmentation. Proper use of sunscreen and following the “Aftercare Instructions” given to you at the time of treatment is of utmost importance.
